Adult athlete development program (21+)

The Senior Athletes Development Program supports committed adult archers looking to further develop their skills, performance and competitive experience. Open to archers aged 21 and above, the program is designed to provide structured development opportunities for athletes competing at club, state and national level.

Delivered through development camps held across regional and metropolitan NSW throughout the year, the program brings together experienced coaches, targeted training and athlete support to help archers continue progressing in the sport.

Who is the program for?

The program is aimed at:

• Archers aged 21+
• Gold Classification and above
• Athletes with a demonstrated commitment to training and competition

What does the program include?

The program includes a range of development opportunities, including:

• Training sessions focused on technique, form and competition strategy
• Fitness programs designed to improve strength, flexibility and conditioning
• Mental coaching to support focus, confidence and performance under pressure
• Competition opportunities across local, state and national events
• Workshops and seminars covering topics such as nutrition, injury prevention and sports science
• Mentorship and support from experienced coaches and senior archers

Development camps are typically held three times per year, nominally in February, June and November, with locations rotating across NSW.

The program is supported through grant funding and participant registration fees to help keep opportunities accessible for athletes across the state.

Regional Development Program

The Archery Australia Regional Development Program (AARDP) is a nationally recognised pathway program designed to support committed archers working towards higher levels of competition, including state, national and international representation.

Delivered in NSW through Archery NSW, the program supports athletes in recurve, compound and barebow divisions by providing structured development opportunities, coaching support and performance-focused training.

The program aims to help self-motivated archers develop the technical, physical and mental skills needed to progress through high-performance pathways and prepare for elite-level competition. Athletes gain access to experienced coaches, targeted training environments and opportunities to compete and grow alongside other developing archers.

Program focus

The program is suited to archers who demonstrate commitment, strong work ethic and a desire to continue progressing within the sport. Expressions of Interest are submitted through Archery Australia and may include talent identification opportunities throughout the year. The program includes:

• Goal setting and long-term development
• Training and competition planning
• Opportunities for domestic and international progression

Judging and officiating

Archery Judges play an important role in ensuring tournaments are fair, safe, and well run, helping archers compete under consistent conditions and ensuring scores are accurately recorded and verified.

Archery NSW supports the training and development of judges across the state, with pathways available for both Event Judges and National Judges through Archery Australia training programs. Most training can be completed online, with National Judges also gaining practical experience through supervised judging at events.

There is always a need for more members to become involved in officiating, whether assisting at local events or progressing towards national accreditation.
