Congratulations to NSW archers, Belinda Maxworthy (Northern Archers), Tayla King (SOPA) and Queensland team match, Alice Ingley for bringing home the silver at Asia Cup 2 in Chinese Taipei for the Female Recurve Team event.
Hosted at the Taipei Stadium, in Chinese Taipei (August 1-7) a 6 strong team represented Australia.
After the qualification round, the Australia women’s team (Maxworthy, King and Ingley) were ranked sixth. They defeated the home team, Chinese Taipei (ranked third) in Round 1, 6 set points to their 2. In Round 2, they tied with Japan (ranked second) after 5 sets putting them in a sudden shoot off. They defeated Japan ad were into gold medal match, the highest achievement for an female recurve team in Australia’s history.
“It took a while for it to sink in that we were in the gold medal match! We only won by two points and after the last arrow was shot in our match everyone was trying to do the maths in their heads to figure out who won. We were told by one of the Aussie Men, ‘You won... I think.’,” Belinda Maxworthy explained.
